Building the Space We Always Needed.

Melanin Mosaic Performance Ensemble, founded in 2023, creates work at the intersection of performance, care, and community, using the marching arts as a foundation to expand where and how this work can live. Through live performance, film, and community-centered projects, we center storytelling rooted in the experiences of the African diaspora and BIPOC communities while welcoming artists from all backgrounds. We treat the marching arts as a training ground rather than a limitation, supporting performers as they move across disciplines, platforms, and creative spaces.

Our work has been shared through performances, screenings, collaborations, and community engagements, and continues to grow through partnerships with artists, educators, organizations, and institutions that value both artistic excellence and human care. Alongside our creative output, we develop programs and projects that prioritize sustainability, wellness, and long-term creative growth, creating pathways for performers to be supported, recognized, and equipped beyond a single season or format. Everything we build is guided by the same goal: meaningful work that honors craft, community, and the people who make it possible.

Step into our world

Meet The Founder

As the Founder and Artistic Director of Melanin Mosaic Performance Ensemble, I’ve dedicated myself to expanding what artistic expression can look like in the marching arts. My journey began as a brass player and drum major in an inner-city drum and bugle corps, but it was my transition into color guard that truly shaped how I think about live performance, storytelling, and showmanship. That, along with my love for film, musicals, and dance, fuels the creative direction behind Melanin Mosaic.

I’ve been part of the marching arts since the mid-’90s, and I’ve seen how powerful this activity can be, and not just creatively, but emotionally. It can heal, empower, and bring people together. That’s a big part of what drives Melanin Mosaic. We bring people from all over to create work that blends personal artistry and storytelling with social reflection and care—whether through live performances, film projects, or outreach initiatives. We’re also committed to supporting performers beyond the stage, especially when it comes to mental health. That means creating and sharing accessible resources that reach beyond the marching arts community.

Through Melanin Mosaic, I hope to offer a space where performers feel seen, stories are told, and real support exists, both artistically and emotionally.
